This website has been developed as a means of providing Minesota taxpayers a window into the state’s budgeting process.  Here are our suggested steps for making the best use of the resources we have provided on this site:

Learn About The Issue:  Most people don’t understand the budgeting process or the magnitude of the our state budget crisis.  So we would recommend that you begin by reviewing the Key Facts that every Minnesotan should know about our state budget.  Experiment with the Budget Calculator to get a sense for where budget adjustments need to be made in order to solve the problem.

Submit Your Ideas: You can use the Idea Generator to submit your suggestions for how to fix the state budget problem.  Our panel of analysts will review these ideas and select those which appear to have the most promise.  These ideas will be organized into specific Proposals that include key facts and figures.

Comment on Our Proposals:  We invite the public to comment on the specific Proposals that we have developed.  We will use this information to refine the proposals before they are presented to the state legislature.

Contact Your Representatives:  Use our Take Action tool to contact your state legislators and the Governor.  Let them know what you think about the budget issue and what they should do to fix the problem.
